Year 1/2 - Sparrow Class
Class Teacher: Miss Arnold
Welcome to Sparrow Class!
Here we will be sharing the journey of our learning and examples of the fantastic work we have been doing in class!
Our current learning in Maths has been based around addition and subtraction and we have been focusing on using practical equipment to help us add and subtract numbers. Our topic this term is the Great Fire of London and we have got off to a great start with our learning, making artwork based on flames and recalling the key facts, such as that the fire started in a bakery in Pudding Lane, in 1666!
Supporting learning at home
Children will be given a decodable reading book to read at home and at school each week, aligned to our SoundsWrite phonics scheme. These books should be read at home as much as possible, with the focus being on improving fluency as the children become familiar with their book throughout the week. We also send homework home at the end of each week which will consolidate and extend our learning, mostly focused on Maths. We also practise spellings of common exception words in school as much as possible- these are words that children find trickier to read and spell. Any practise of these words you can do at home also is greatly appreciated (please see picture below).
Our PE days this term are Tuesdays and Fridays. Children should come into school wearing PE kit on these days.
Timings of the day
The hall doors will open at 8.35am each morning and will close at 8.45am. The children will be let out at the end of the day of the classroom at 3.15pm.
If you need to contact myself at any time or pass on a message, please contact the office via office@stjosephsinfant.school
Thank you for your support.
Kind regards,
