About our curriculum: EYFS
Young children learn best when they are playing. At St Joseph's Infant school, our children explore and learn through a range of fun, practical experiences that have been designed to enable development in the children's learning. We have a balanced approach to learning– we combine adult led activities, experiences (for example, gardening and cooking), and targeted phonics sessions with early years best practice – learning through play, enabling environments, outdoor learning, following children’s interests and teaching though adult-child interactions.
Curriculum
Our curriculum is based on the Early Years Foundation Stage Statutory Framework and ‘Development Matters’ guidance, alongside using the children’s interests and developmental needs when planning the environment, as well as taking into account the context of our school. Our curriculum is designed to give children the knowledge and understanding needed to prepare them for year 1 and beyond. This curriculum was designed with curriculum leaders for our nursery, key stage 1 and our adjoining Junior school, so to ensure sequencing and progression throughout. Our long term curriculum plan can be found below and further details can be found under each subject area.
Our whole school curriculum is knowledge and skill based and we have developed Early Years progression documents for key subject areas which link our provision in the EYFS to the skills and knowledge in the national curriculum taught in key stage 1 and beyond in KS2, in our adjoining Junior school. Please see these progression documents below.
